The National Indoor Stadium is a venue specially designed for the 29th Olympic Games which is located in Area B, Beijing Olympic Green. The total floor area is 67,151 square meters and with 19,000 seats. Sports events of gymnastics, handball and volleyball during the Olympic Games and wheel-chair basketball events during the Paralympics Games, will be held in the National Indoor Stadium. Afterwards, the National Indoor Stadium will serve as a multi-functional facility for cultural and sport activities.
The simple grouping of the arena and the side hall describes in its implementation the number 8. It implies Beijing 2008 Olympics and symbolizes the friendship between different nations and the spirit of sport. The division of arena and the side hall meets the requirement of Olympic Games and serves to different activities held at the same time after the game.
The roof structure with 250m in length, 140m in width and 40m in height, will consist of spatial, arched lattice girders.
Above the closed outer skin around the facade is a backlit media facade of spherically bent, translucent glass fiber reinforced plastic sheets supported by PolyLED technology.
The theme of the Olympic Games “Human, Green and High-tech games” will be supported by the integrated technical concept. The technical system in this stadium will be controlled by a high-tech automation system to optimize and minimize usage of energy.
